Orphanages
One of the greatest tragedies in Ukraine is the 103,000 orphans scattered across the nation. These orphans are victims of parental abuse, alcoholism, and parental desertion. Most of the orphans raised in the state-run homes are often just as abused as they were at home. 80% of those who reach the age when they can leave the homes end up pushing drugs or becoming prostitutes.
There are two answers to this deplorable situation. 1. We could build a new orphanage or refurbish a building that already exists. 2. The government allows for single home orphanages where 10 orphans can be brought into the home providing the home meets government codes. We have assisted three pastors in enlarging their homes so they were able to bring in 10 orphans. The government then gives a monthly stipend for each child. Imagine what it must be like to live in the horrific and abusive conditions in these state run homes and then to be transferred to a home where love abounds and there is peace and tranquility. The stories that can be told would bring a waterfall of tears cascading down your cheeks. |
